MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council resumed its anti-encroachment drive as its workers confiscated goods displayed on pavements and footpaths valued around Rs two lakh.
The operation was carried out along the Arlem-Nehru stadium road, which is being renovated with footpaths and pavements by the government. Goods, ranging from fruits, vegetables, plastic chairs, ladders and hardware items were confiscated by the municipal workers on the instructions of the Chief Officer Siddivinayak Naik.
The Chief Officer later told the media that the goods confiscated by the municipal workers were valued at around Rs two lakh. “We have also attached a work frame erected in the public passage. The fruits and vegetables were all being displayed for sale right on the footpaths along the road,” Naik said, while asserting that the anti-encroachment drive will continue.
