Commotion was witnessed at the wholesale fish market after some people who had come to the market to purchase fish suspected a youngster of being a traffic sentinel.
The youngster, believed to be a minor, was confronted by the people, who demanded an explanation for taking photographs of two-wheelers coming into the market. The minor boy pleaded innocence saying he was not a traffic sentinel as was believed by the irate crowd. His mother, who was in the market, rushed to the rescue of her son, explaining he was not registered as a traffic sentinel.
Taking no chances, the Fatorda police intervened to avoid any law and order situation as the crowd alleged that the boy was indeed operating as a traffic sentinel. The two parties, who were summoned to the Fatorda police station, were told by PI Navlesh Desai that no one can prevent the traffic sentinel from taking photographs of two-wheeler riders riding without helmets.
PI Navlesh later told The Goan that the boy was not assaulted by the irate mob, but they suspected that he was taking the photographs of the motorists. “I made it clear that the traffic sentinel scheme is notified by the government and no one can direct their ire at the sentinels carrying out their job as per the notification,” PI Navlesh added.
