MMC draws makeshift plan to resume baling

 MARGAO

With Friday’s fire bringing baling of dry waste to a halt at Sonsodo for want of power supply, the Margao Municipal Council has drawn up makeshift plans to re-start baling of plastic waste at the Old fish market behind the Municipal building.

MMC Assistant Engineer Vishant Naik informed that out of the two baling machines installed at the old fish market behind the MMC building, one of them will be put back into operation from Sunday.

He further said the MMC is tying up with the Goa Waste Management Corporation to treat the dry waste from Margao at the facility at Verna.

“Baling of dry waste at Sonsodo has come to a halt. There’s no power supply to Sonsodo since the transformer and other electrical equipments have been destroyed in the fire. It will take a month or so to install the transformer. We have now decided to start baling at the old fish market from Sunday”, he said.

Sources in the know wondered how the MMC will handle the problem of treating the dry waste when the existing logistics were found short of the requirements.
