Churchill keeps cards close to chest on govt formation

Churchill keeps cards close to chest on govt formation

MARGAO

Trinamool Congress leader Churchill Alemao on Saturday reiterated that he would retain the Benaulim seat, but kept his cards close to his chest on government formation after March 10.

Churchill further demanded rectification of the anomalies and discrepancies in the draft delimitation of panchayat wards in the villages of Cavelossim, Seraulim and Carmona in Benaulim constituency.

Addressing the media, Churchill said he is confident of retaining the Benaulim seat, but could not categorically state whether he would be part of the government that will take shape in the state after March 10.

“Both the Congress and BJP has exuded confidence of forming the government. Even the TMC-MGP alliance and the Goa Forward Party have expressed confidence in forming the next government. In such a scenario, the best thing is to wait for the election result on March 10”, he said.

He declined to comment whether the BJP has approached him for support, and also refused to shed light on whether he would extend support to any party or group to form the government.

“In politics, one should not rule out any possibility. Let us wait for the results on March 10. Michael Lobo has rushed to Delhi to stake a claim for the CM’s post, when the decision of the people is still in the EVMs”, he said.

Meanwhile, addressing the media in the presence of Seraulim Sarpanch Leslie Dourado, Carmona Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes and ex-Cavelossim Sarpanch Dionizio Dias, Churchill has demanded rectification of the anomalies in the draft delimitation plan of these villages.

He disclosed plans to call on the District Collector, South on Monday with a plea to rectify the discrepancies before the delimitation plan is approved by the State Election Commission.

Both Leslie, Sandra and Dionizio have claimed that objections have been lodged with the election authorities highlighting the discrepancies in the draft plan.
