MMC has funds to meet workers' demand: Chief officer

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer L S R Pereira said the council has necessary funds to meet all the demands out forth by the employees and daily wage workers.

Pereira was reacting to the strike notice served by employees and daily wages workers under the banner of Goa Municipal Employees' Association, who have threatened to go on a strike from December 28.

Pereira, who holds additional charge as Chief Officer of MMC, consulted his officials and said there was no need for employees and other staff to serve the strike notice, as MMC had funds to meet the demands and were in the process of clearing outstanding dues.

“We can meet all their demands, as we have necessary funds with us,” said Pereira.

“It's true that MMC was under financial constraint, due to which we could not pay the October salaries in time. However, the administrative section and MMC after conducting the recovery drive paid salaries to the employees and is in the process of paying the others and their outstanding dues,” said Pereira.

“As far as the MACP’s are concerned, it all depends on the confidential report of the employees,” added Pereira.

“The employees and other staff should carry out their duties in the same manner that they have served us the strike notice. It is beneficial to them as such a crisis will not arise in future,” added Pereira.

When queried on the time-frame for settling the demands of employees, Pereira replied he would consult MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik in this regard.

“The demands will be met before the deadline set by the employees and other staff,” said Pereira.
