A truck, which was parked at the S.D II WD IX of PWD at Monte Hill, caught fire on Wednesday.
According to fire officials, they were intimated about the incident at 2.45 pm after which they rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. Fire official Herculano GL Souza who was present at the spot said the fire engulfed the plastic cover and rear tyres of the truck. Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire officials said the fire may have spread from the wild grass adjacent to this truck which soon engulfed the rear end of the truck.
Prompt action on the part of the officials prevented the fire from spreading to another truck which was parked in the close vicinity of the partially ravaged truck.
Speaking to mediapersons, JE Vijay Kudchadkar, categorically ruled out the possibility of a short circuit as a possible cause for the fire. He said he would demand an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of fire from fire officials.
He claimed that both the trucks were in use.
