Driver loses life in Dharbandora mishap

PONDA

The driver who was trapped along with the cleaner when their truck fell into a ravine at Pilye-Dharbandora, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Usgao, while the cleaner has been hospitalised for serious injuries.

The accident had occurred at 3 pm on Tuesday, when the truck laden with iron bars had fallen into the gorge. Fire brigade personnel had a tough time in extricating the duo out of the cabin, as the iron bars had slid into the cabin.

The driver, Bhagwan Singh Rathod, was pulled out after nine hours, while the cleaner, Rambabu Lohar, was rescued after six hours. Both were shifted to a hospital, but Rathod breathed his last while undergoing treatment in Primary Health Centre at Usgao.

Another driver, who had jumped off the truck before the vehicle fell into the gorge, is admitted at Hospicio hospital in Margao, while Lohar was later referred to the Goa Medical College hospital at Bambolim. Ponda police is investigating the case.
