The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has launched its new campaign 'Nivhal Mapusa, Nitol Mapusa' for more effective garbage management in the municipality.
The new campaign, which will focus on garbage segregation, a mobile van and 'Your shop, your garbage’ scheme were launched by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza in the presence of Additional District Collector Mahadev Arondekar, MMC Administrator Paresh Faldesai, MMC Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar, Deputy Collector Mamu Haage and councillors.
The mobile van will move around the municipal area to create awareness regarding collection of garbage, segregation and will also provide a timetable to collect the garbage.
‘Your shop, your garbage’ is a new scheme to be started on experimental basis, where locals will be encouraged to recycle garbage.
“PET bottles, iron, aluminium cans and similar materials will be accepted for Rs 5 to Rs 13 per kg and people will be able to buy bread, milk, eggs, rice etc. From Shri Yallamma stores and Bappa General stores from Dattawadi, which have been chosen for this scheme," informed MMC Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar.
