That the imposing Municipal building comes in handy for film directors and producers and that the picture of the municipal building often forms a backdrop in the popular Konkani tiatr is an open secret. And, not to mention tourists, both domestic and foreign, who take back memories with a picture of the Municipal building.
Yet, the Margao Municipal Council headed by Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai has felt that the Margao Municipality needs a logo and have its own branding. "Every city sh
ould have its own branding and we felt that the MMC should have its own logo with a specific colour in tune with the ethos and heritage of the place," Babita told the media on Tuesday.
And, to find a suitable logo for the Municipality, the chairperson has announced a competition and an attractive cash prize of Rs 30,000 for the best entry. "This competition is open for all citizens above the age of 18 years. Students and professionals alike can take part in the Logo contest. Students of art, professional and freelancers can take part in the Logo contest," she added.
Justifying the need to have a logo for the Margao Municipality, Babita said the municipality has no logo nor letter heads to address official letters. "Anyone and every one can make a letter head since there's no official logo," she added.
Meanwhile, the MMC chairperson informed that the Municipality will invite Expressions of Interest from architects/artists/designers, individually or in collaboration, to design a kiosk and a handcart.
The design, she said, ought to be a design maintaining the cultural heritage and matching the aesthetics of the rich architectural heritage of the city and a modular design conforming to modern architectural sensibilities.
The prize for the best design in each category will be Rs 50,000.
