MMC rids SGPDA footpath from invasion of migrants

MARGAO
Drawing flak over the invasion of the SGPDA footpath by migrant vendors over the last several days, the Margao Municipal Council and the Fatorda police on Monday morning cleared the entire footpath of the migrants.
Following instructions issued by Margao Municipal Council acting chairperson Tito Cardozo, a Margao Municipal team descended at the SGPDA ground to crack a whip against the vendors, who had virtually converted the footpath as a makeshift home.
There was no resistance to the MMC drive even as the police led by Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Navlesh Desai ensured there's no law and order situation at the venue.
The municipality is also believed to have cracked a whip against the migrant vendors ahead of the Goa Liberation Day on December 19 as local MLA and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai is scheduled to take the salute at the parade on Tuesday morning.
The migrants had literally used the footpath as a shelter and to cook food, and hang up the washed clothes on the PDA wall.
