Acting tough against financial institutions operating in the commercial capital sans complying with the mandatory business norms, the Margao Municipal Council has issued notices to around 72 banking institutions to provide a copy of their latest lease agreement to the rent payable to the civic body.
The MMC has also sought information from the institutions such as signboards, ATMs, advertisements etc to bring the business under the tax net.
In a bid to bring the unlicensed business establishments under the tax net, the Margao Municipal Council has served notices to around 219 business premises to produce the trade and occupation licenses, besides copies of advertisement fees, several additional businesses conducted and additional advertising boards displayed by them.
Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes informed that the erring business establishments have been served a seven day time period to provide the information or apply for a fresh trade license.
“The civic body is ready to help the people and those who are doing business in the commercial capital, but we will not spare those doing business without obtaining the mandatory licenses. Recovery of outstanding arrears is in full progress”, he added.
Saying that few of the defaulters have come forward to give copies of their latest lease agreements, the Chief Officer said the MMC had given enough time buffer and will now act tough with evaders and defaulters who owe to MMC.
