All eyes are focused on the Margao Municipal Council meeting scheduled on Thursday as the civic body will discuss the preliminary notice of termination served by Sociedade Fomento Industrial (SFI) Ltd, the concessionaire which has been running the Sonsodo waste treatment plant since 2012.
While SFI had raised a host of issues in its termination notice, ranging from the delay in the payment of money to the tune of Rs 11.45 crore and failure to send segregated waste at the treatment plant, the civic body had taken a stand that the city fathers will deliberate on the issues at the council meeting before taking a firm stand.
SFI had highlighted three main events of default on the part of the Margao Municipal Council including the failure to make payments amounting to Rs 11.45 crore and the civic body’s persistent failure to bring excluded waste to the project and failure to cart away such waste.
In the preliminary notice of termination, SFI had called upon the Margao municipality to submit an action plan indicating the steps to be taken by the civic body to rectify the events of default failing which the concessionaire had threatened to take such further steps as prescribed under the Concession Agreement.
