MARGAO
Madgavkars and Fatordekars will have to wait for the general reshuffle of government officers to get a full-fledged Chief Officer to head the Margao Municipal Council.
In fact, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat told the media after inaugurating drain repair works at two wards at Comba worth Rs 25 lakh that he is of the opinion that the Margao Municipal Council should get a full-fledged officer.
He, however, hastened to add that the government will post a full-fledged Chief Officer only at the time of general reshuffle of government officials.
When the media drew attention of the Margao MLA that administrative works are pending in the Civic body, Kamat shot back saying the incumbent Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar has cleared as many as 200 files on a single day.
“The Chief Officer has informed me that all pending files have been cleared by him from his chamber. Panchwadkar had worked in the MMC earlier”, he said.
When the media, however, pointed out that hearing of cases have come to a standstill when the incumbent CO is in Panjim attending to matters in the Social welfare department, Kamat said the transfer of Panchwadkar to Margao is a temporary arrangement made by the government. “For the moment, the officer will have to adjust. Margao will get a full-fledged Chief Officer only at the time of general reshuffle”, he added.
Incumbent Social Welfare Director Ajit Panchwadkar was given additional charge as MMC Chief Officer after the government transferred and posted outgoing CO Gaurish Sankhwalkar to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat as the Chief Executive Officer. Questions, however, remain unanswered why the government had acted in haste to transfer Sankhwalkar from the MMC if the government could not find a full-fledged Chief Officer to head the Margao Municipal Council.
