The Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC) Limited has shut down its regional office in Vasco.
Once an active player in the trade of iron ore from Goa for about five decades, MMTC, a central government undertaking, was a major exporter and at one time had over 150 employees on its roll and controlled operations from minor ports in neighbouring places, in addition to Goa.
The stoppage of iron ore operations had hit MMTC badly both at procurement centre at Bellary and shipment centre at Goa.
The management decided to close both its offices in Goa and all staff at Goa office opted for VRS and were relieved on Friday at a function presided over by MMTC Chairman Ved Prakash and attended by Assis Sequeira, former general manager of MMTC in New Delhi.
