MARGAO
Margao police were left red-faced on Saturday after burglars successfully decamped a cellphone shop Kamaxi Digiworld, decamping with around 48 mobile phones, valued at Rs 8.62 lakh, besides cash of Rs 1.44 lakh, all amounting to over Rs 10 lakh.
The incident took place in the shop located at the Bolshe traffic circle at Gogol in the wee hours of Saturday at dawn, between 5.30 to 6.30 in the morning.
The culprits barged entry into the shop by cutting the locks of the shutters after tampering the CCTV
The owner Yogesh Kuncolienkar told The Goan that the burglary was committed by at least four persons, with two miscreants entering the shop and as many others keeping a vigil outside.
He pointed out that while the CCTV cameras installed outside the shop were tampered by the miscreants, the burglars were caught in the act of burgling the cameras by the cameras inside the shop. "The CCTV footage showed that the miscreants effected entry into the shop at around 5.30 am and left at around 6.30 am," he said.
The incident came to light when the employees came to open the shop in the morning only to find the locks cut open. "I was called by the employees that unknown miscreants had burgled the shop. I rushed to Margao and later intimated the incident to the police," Yogesh said.
Margao PI C L Patil and the Margao police team were left embarrassed by the daring burglary since the cell phone shop is located right on the main road at the busy Bolshe junction abutting the Eastern bypass, which is manned by the men-in-uniform.
Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to help the police in the investigations, but in vain.
