Modi arrives today; will he touch upon mining?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also BJP’s star campaigner, lands in Goa today (Wednesday) to address a public rally at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim later in the evening.   

All eyes will be focused Modi’s speech today, expecting reflection of assurances like resumption of mining activities and consideration of granting Special Status to Goa to protect its unique identity which he gave in his mega meet in Goa during the 2014 general elections.   

The expected strength for today’s rally is around 30000, but not planned to match the turn out of over a lakh as witnessed in the rally of January 2014.   

The Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF), an umbrella organisation of various categories of mining dependents has repeatedly slammed the BJP for not doing enough to restart mining operations in the State.   

The BJP in Goa had recommended to its central leadership to incorporate a solution to the mining tangle in Goa apart from tourism development and additional infrastructure development in party’s manifesto, but the issues seem to have not reflected in the agenda.

State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar said that party had made arrangements for around 30000 party workers and supporters inside and outside the indoor stadium at Bambolim for PM’s rally.
