GPCC President Amit Patkar on Thursday criticised the Modi government for using vendetta politics to finish the opposition in the country.
He was speaking at a demonstration at its Panaji office to condemn the summoning of Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Speaking at the protest, Patkar said, “First, they grilled Rahul Gandhi for several hours but they got nothing and now they have summoned Sonia Gandhi. This is nothing but vendetta politics which the BJP is resorting to, to finish opposition in the country.”
“The National Herald case was over long back but the same has been reopened only to divert the minds of the people from the real issues as the 2024 elections are approaching, and they have no issues to convince the people. Hence, they are resorting to confusing them. Because of this, we have organised this protest today,” Patkar added.
“Prices of essential items, fuel are rising by the passing days. But instead of concentrating on issues affecting the common man, the BJP is busy targeting the opposition as they do not have any answers to the burning issues raised by the Congress,” he stated while adding that the Assembly session is a classic example where the BJP does not have any answers to the queries raised by Congress MLAs.
Mahila chief Beena Naik said that the Congress party is not afraid of the Central agencies being used against their leaders. “Be it ED, CBI or any other agency we will face them unitedly,” Naik stated.
“This is dictatorship of the Modi government which is used against the Congress as they know that Congress is the only party capable of exposing their misdeeds,” she added.
Goa Pradesh Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar and several other members were present for the protest even though not a single MLA remained present, apparently due to the ongoing Assembly.
'AICC will consult all MLAs on CLP leader'

Speaking to reporters, Patkar said, “After the recent happenings, AICC has decided to choose the CLP leader after consulting all MLAs individually. They will hold individual rounds of discussions with all the MLAs and after taking everybody into confidence, the CLP leader will be finalised. Once the Assembly session gets over, the consultation with the MLAs will begin.”
