Moira man killed in hit-and-run at bridge

MAPUSA

A 34-year-old man from Moira, Jony Anthonio, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Moira Bridge around 6 am on Tuesday.

Anthonio, who worked as a security guard, was reportedly walking home when an unidentified vehicle knocked him down and allegedly dragged him for several metres before fleeing the scene.

He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

Mapusa Police have launched an investigation and are making efforts to identify and trace the vehicle involved.

Police are scanning CCTV footage from the Moira Bridge and surrounding areas in the hope of identifying the vehicle and establishing the sequence of events leading to the accident.

Police are also expected to examine footage from nearby establishments and road stretches to track the vehicle’s movements after the accident.
