Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced that the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will begin on August 31.
He did not reveal the duration of the session, saying a decision would be taken later. Sawant said all pending government business and legislations would be taken up and passed during the sitting.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has demanded that the monsoon session be held for at least 15 days. He said the government must provide sufficient time for discussions on key issues.
The last Assembly session, the Budget Session held in March, was cut short after the government decided to limit it to seven sittings, citing the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct following the announcement of the Ponda bye-election. The move had drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition.
Opposition parties had accused the government of using the Code of Conduct as an excuse to avoid scrutiny on issues such as land conversions and allegations of corruption.
