BELAGAVI
With every monsoon season, the journey between Belagavi and Goa via Chorla Ghat becomes more and more enjoyable. Thanks to good rains the region has received since the last fortnight, the seasonal waterfalls in the Chorla ghat has become active, attracting large number of tourists from Belagavi, Goa and north Karnataka region.
While nature’s beauty is being admired by tourists, hapless parking and unwarranted behaviour of certain groups has caused unnecessary nuisance to families and citizens. Reckless parking at certain waterfalls across the Chorla Ghat has frequently caused traffic jams, due to which many motorists have appealed for regular patrolling by Goa police.
Soon after one enters the Goa border from Karnataka, waterfalls are seen adorning the cliffs of the Ghats on either sides of the road. The lush green Ghats, cascading clouds over the Anjunem water reservoir, and the waterfalls have been attracting scores of tourists to Goa. There is more rush on the weekends. “It is certainly a pleasing experience. However, regular patrolling by Goa police is required, due to annoyance caused by certain groups of over enthusiastic tourists. More so, the reckless parking, especially on weekends has been causing inconvenience and traffic jams. Goa police needs to look into this matter,” a local told The Goan.
Complaints about the groups of young tourists who park their vehicles on narrow roads in the ghat area and drink alcohol, apart from loitering the road, have also been on the rise. It may be recalled that Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar during his visit to Belagavi in June had assured that the Goa government would soon commence a police patrol van in the ghats to assist the travellers. However till date, no concrete measures have been initiated, leaving the tourists and commuters helpless along the Chorla Ghat.
There is a growing demand for a Goa police patrol van in the Chorla Ghat section, especially during the monsoon season, when visitors are attracted to the seasonal waterfalls in the area.
