More activities needed in coop sector: CM

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday appealed to stakeholders to make efforts to introduce more activities in the cooperative sector, to accomplish the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa.

Sawant was speaking after inaugurating the 67th Cooperative Week-2020 in the presence of Cooperative Minister Govind Gaude and Speaker Rajesh Patnekar at the Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali.

The function was jointly organised by the Department of Cooperation, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Bicholim Zone, in association with Sattari Urban Cooperative Society Ltd, and Gomanchal Dairy Farming Cooperative Society Ltd, Kudne-Sankhali.

The chief minister advised the stakeholders to set up a target for the year and work tirelessly to achieve the desired goal.

“We are witnessing several cooperative societies in the State and it is the need of the hour to introduce more activities in this sector. All stakeholders should work to admit more members to boost this sector,” he said.

He also informed that NABARD would open a shop in association with Sankhali Municipal Council to display items created by Self-Help Groups and help market the products.

Sawant commended the Goa State Cooperative Bank for providing a loan of Rs 1,60,000 without interest under the Atmanirbhar Bharat to dairy farmers.

“The cooperative sector will ensure that the vision of Swayampurna Goa is fulfilled,” he said.

On the occasion, the chief minister, cooperative minister and speaker also felicitated stakeholders of the cooperative sector from Bicholim and Sattari taluka for rendering yeomen services in the sector.
