The GOACAN has called for a comprehensive review of the status of public toilets in all municipal areas in the State.
According to GOACAN, the review must be completed by March 2021 and must cover all the municipal councils in the 11 talukas.
“Keeping in mind that thousands of domestic and foreign tourists visit Goa, the public toilets must be maintained properly, for which appropriate SOPs must be prepared,” said Roland Martins, co-ordinator of GOACAN in a letter to the Director of Municipal Administration.
“Consumer complaints on issues of cleanliness and overcharging of fees must be dealt with effective action and special attention must be given to see that these public toilets can be used by disabled persons and senior citizens,” he added.
The NGO has also requested the DMA to ensure that the public toilets have proper signage and can be located easily on information maps of Panaji, Mapusa, Margao, Vasco and Ponda in the first phase.
