Morle and Poriem villages in Sattari have been hit by water scarcity after two pumps at the Sankhali water treatment project broke down.
In a bid to provide alternate water supply to the affected areas, PWD officials are supplying water to Morle through a special pipeline from the Keri Water Project.
Sources said the pumps are old and prone to frequent breakdowns and cannot be repaired in the State.
“These faulty pumps are usually sent for repairs to Belgaum or Kolhapur,” said the source.
PWD officials have also sent water in tankers to the affected areas in Morle and Poriem.
Locals have felt that this problem can only be resolved permanently by improving infrastructure at the Sankhali water treatment plant.
When contacted, PWD officials said the faulty pumps have been sent to Belgaum for repairs.
