A youth from Sada has on Saturday filed a police complaint against Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), after accusing the council of endangering lives while transporting garbage to the garbage treatment plant at Sada. The complainant, Yusuf Shaikh, said the incident had taken place as he was travelling back to his house in Sada.
“An MMC garbage truck was moving in front of my bike. As I reached near the sub-jail area at Sada, a large portion of garbage fell from the MMC truck (GA-06-T-5332) and in front of me. I lost my balance and fell off the bike.”
“The open truck was not properly covered on top nor was the cargo lid closed. Thankfully, despite falling on my face, I only sustained minor injuries in the mishap,” said Shaikh.
“We cannot afford to risk people’s lives over the negligence and that too, by MMC staff. I request the MMC to take proper action in the matter and I have also filed a police complaint against MMC at the Mormugao police station for endangering public life while transporting garbage,” Shaikh added.
Shaikh alleged that instead of apologizing for their negligence, the MMC staff behaved rudely and arrogantly with him. While appealing for action in the matter, Shaikh has demanded that MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes instruct MMA staff to be more careful and also direct the MMC driver to cover the garbage being transported to Sada.
