Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) led by Chairperson Leo Rodrigues on Tuesday evening carried out an anti-encroachment drive along with municipal inspectors, labourers and other councillors.
Rodrigues said the MMC was forced to initiate action and clear the encroachments, as vendors did not pay heed to several warnings.
“We started this drive and cleared the encroachments. We received several complaints from people and even from the Police Traffic Cell that the additional trays and tables placed by the vendors were creating traffic congestion on the internal road from Salgaonkar office to TB Cunha Chowk. We had given several warnings in the past and we are now forced to initiate action,” said Rodrigues.
