Mormugao Council launches poclain to clear garbage

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday morning launched a poclain machine at the garbage dumping site at Sada to clear garbage in the port town.

The poclain machine was launched by Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar in the presence of MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues and others.

Speaking to reporters, Rodrigues said the poclain machine was the need of the hour for the port town.

“We did not have a poclain machine when the garbage dump caught fire and we had to arrange one from outside. Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar also spoke to sold waste management authority and got us 4 trucks sanctioned. We have had JCBs but now this poclain will help us clear the garbage in a better way. We are sending around 15 tonnes of wet waste to Saligao and our dry waste is being baled so as to clear the garbage dump at Sada,” said Rodrigues.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said the poclain machine was procured under the 15th finance commission and that, the MMC would receive trucks and baling machines to resolve garbage issue.
