After a successful plastic-free initiative by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) at the recent Damodar Saptah Fair,
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes wants to continue with the ‘Plastic-free Vasco’ at this year’s Ganesh Festival by replacing plastic with cloth bags, paper bags and leaves for packing food material.
Speaking to the Goan, Fernandes said he has requested NGOs, SHGs and other like-minded organisations to assist him to make Vasco plastic-free.
“I think we had made a right beginning and I am confident that message has gone to the people that
the Vasco plastic-free mission has got a thumping applause from people from across the country who had visited this year’s Saptah festival.”
“I am confident that Lord Ganesh will help us to eradicate the menace of plastic pollution. I am working hard to make “Beat plastic pollution” theme a reality,” said Fernandes.
The chief officer has requested everyone to assist the MMC to wipe out plastic pollution.
“Plastic is a worry and let us put this worry in the hands of Lord Ganesh who will bless and guide us to sort out this worry being the Vignaharta. Leaf patravali and banana leaves, which can be recycled and reused, will not affect the health of animals and also human beings and keep our environment healthy,” added Fernandes.
