The Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) has flatly rejected the Navy’s demand to issue NOC for development projects in the 4-km radius of Dabolim Airport.
Speaking to The Goan, MPDA Chairman Clafasio Dias also claimed that a central government body had taken up construction of high-rise buildings, adding that neither the file or any approval was present in the MPDA.
“The MPDA will request the State government to take up these issues during the court hearing on December 16.
“We convened our second meeting since I took over as MPDA chairman. We have decided to fight against the Navy’s proposal seeking its NOC and permissions for development projects in the 4-kms radius of the airport.”
“We have had a detailed meeting and no member is satisfied with this clause. The high court is hearing the matter on December 16 and we will put our objections to this proposal at that hearing,” said Dias.
He also questioned the construction of high-rise buildings near Dabolim Airport.
“When the Navy is seeking development restrictions in the area, how has this central government organisation been allowed to come with such tall constructions? We want to know who has given them permissions to construct these tall buildings,” said Dias.
The MPDA chairman claimed there was no file regarding the construction of these tall buildings and no approval from local authorities.
“This is not correct. So, if the central government wants, they can do anything and if the common man wants to build something, they have to go to the Navy? This is unacceptable. We will take this up with the State government,” Dias added.
