Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Monday said that it appeared that mostly non-Goans were involved in the land grabbing scam that has taken Goa by storm and doubted whether any politicians were involved in the scam.

D’Souza also said that some of his close friends were conned after their properties were transferred in some other person’s name and cautioned people of Goa to go and check whether their properties were still in their name.

“Most of the people involved in the land grabbing scam don’t seem to be from Goa. I am not sure whether any particular politician is involved. But if there is anybody who is involved in this then definitely it will come out. The CM and the TCP Minister are very aggressive about this entire thing,” D’Souza said.

The Mapusa MLA was responding to queries from journalists on the on-going investigation of the special investigation team (SIT) in the land grabbing scam.

D’Souza said that the land grabbing scam appeared to be big as some of his friends got caught in the trap when they found that their properties were already transferred in some other person’s name.

“I request each and every Goan especially those owning prime properties, to visit the concerned department and check whether the documents or your land is still on your name. There is a possibility that somebody has forged your documents and transferred your property in somebody else’s name,” he warned.

He commended the Chief Minister and the TCP Minister for doing a commendable job by setting up a system where those who have been cheated and wronged could approach the relevant authority and get justice.

“The procedure to get land records rectified is quite a lengthy one. I hope the court as well as the government comes out with a proper solution to ensure that the entire process of returning the title back to the original owner is seamless and fast tracked,” he said.
