Mother booked for negligence as minor rider dies in Assolna mishap

The mother of the 16-year-old motorcycle rider who died in a road accident at Assolna on late Thursday night has been booked under Section 304A of the IPC for causing death by negligence.

The police alleged that the mother of the deceased rider, hailing from Seraulim, allowed her son to ride the Bajaj Pulsor motorcycle knowing that her son in conflict with law is a minor and does not possess the valid driving licence from the competent authority.

The police further said that as a result of which the child in conflict in law rode the motorcycle in rash and negligent manner endangering human life while proceeding from Betul towards Assolna market and at about 10 pm on Thursday night, when he reached near the Assolna police out post lost control over the motorcycle and skidded and went towards the wrong side and dashed against bricks and stem of cut tree as a result of which the rider and the pillion rider namely Akash Pujari sustained injuries.

The rider later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital, Margao. The pillion rider namely Akash Pujari aged 20 years is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Diogo Gracias informed that the police have invoked Section 304A against the mother since the deceased rider was a minor boy of 16 years. “The mother has been booked since she allowed the minor boy to rider the motorcycle when he did not possess the driving licence,” PI Diogo added.

He said the body of the minor rider has been handed over to the relatives after the post mortem examination. The Cuncolim police is investigating.
