Migrant-inhabited Moti Dongor will soon play host to a Police outpost and a sub-health centre too.
While the Goa Police are bracing up to inaugurate the police outpost at Moti Dongor, the health department is expected to recruit the staff to man the sub-health centre under the National Urban Health Mission.
District Police Chief, SP Sunita Sawant and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Santosh Desai on Thursday inspected the police outpost building under construction at Moti Dongor.
“Around 99 per cent of the work on the police outpost building is complete. We will inaugurate the police outpost at Moti Dongor after the work is complete in all respects,” Sawant said, adding that Margao MLA Digambar Kamat extended his help in the renovation of the structure.
Outlining the benefits of the police outpost, SP Sawant said that people from Moti Dongor need not come to the Margao Police station with small issues. “As far as the police is concerned, the outpost will help to maintain effective surveillance of the area,” she said.
As far as the sub-health centre is concerned, Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Succorro Quadros informed that the health centre had proposed three such sub-health centres in the city, including Moti Dongor, Malbhat and Chandrawado under the National Urban Health Mission. “The sub-health centre will cater to the health requirements of the local inhabitants. It will also help to carry out the immunization program,” he said.
To a question, the Margao Urban Health officer said that the Centre would move the government for staff, including a doctor to man the sub-health centre.
Waste mound 'greets' cops

Strange it may seem but true that Moti Dongor plays host to a waste dump with garbage dumped on the slope, throwing up questions whether the Margao Municipal Council does not collect waste from the locality or the residents prefer to dump the waste in the open.
In fact, Thursday saw garbage and litter greeting South Goa district Superintendent of Police, Sunita Sawant and DySP Margao, Santosh Desai after the duo had headed to Moti Dongor to review the progress of the police outpost building.
The district police chief was blunt in saying that not only policing, but cleanliness is very important for the community in general.
“Indiscriminate dumping of garbage seemed a major issue at Moti Dongor. The site emits foul odour and the garbage dump may give rise to mosquito breeding. I have found the prevailing conditions very pathetic,” she said.
Disclosing plans to take up with the Margao Municipal Chief Officer to undertake a cleanliness drive before the inauguration of the police outpost, SP Sawant has called for sensitization of the public at the locality to ensure cleanliness.
