Motorists have been moving cautiously and barely beyond the stipulated 30 kmph on the Zuari Bridge and this may not be only due to a speed limit on the bridge.

The uneven road on the Zuari bridge has come in for severe criticism among motorists, especially those who frequently travel on the bridge, prompting demands for urgent hotmixing of the road.

According to sources, the potholes on the bridge had been patched up by authorities but the patchwork has worn out, causing an uneven surface on the road.

A motorist, Ramesh Naik, said he has been using the road everyday while proceeding to and from to work at Vasco.

"The road on the Zuari bridge is getting worse with every passing day. The road has begun developing small potholes and is uneven at many locations, which is dangerous for motorists.”

“There is a possibility that two-wheeler riders could lose control and meet with a road mishap. It is high time the PWD takes remedial measures to hotmix the road or fill the potholes," said Naik.

Another motorist, Salim Khan, said while the new Zuari bridge is being constructed, the existing bridge should not be ignored.

"The Zuari bridge is vital because it is the main connection between South and North Goa. The bridge road has developed so many potholes and the ride on the bridge is not a pleasant one with such bumps all over.”

“Authorities had earlier patched up the road, but that is has worn out. The approach roads on both sides of the bridge also lack proper illumination, especially between the Agassaim bypass and Siridao, where there are so many diversions. Authorities must provide illumination along the road," said Khan.
