MoU signed to combat child hunger with help of restaurant industry

Marking a major step towards addressing childhood hunger and poverty in India, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with global non-profit ‘Share Our Strength’. Founded in a Washington DC row house four decades ago, Share Our Strength has grown into a leading non-profit, raising and granting over $600 million to support vulnerable children and families worldwide.

The MoU was formalised during NRAI’s annual general meeting at the 4th Indian Restaurant Summit in Goa. To kickstart the initiative, Olive Bar & Kitchen pledged Rs 30 lakh towards the cause. Its founder and managing director, AD Singh, emphasised that food is not only about taste but also about care, dignity, and community.

Debbie Shore, co-founder of Share Our Strength, noted, “India has one of the world’s largest food service sectors, and with NRAI’s leadership, we can channel its influence and resources to ensure children get the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and thrive.”

NRAI president Sagar Daryani added that restaurants have always been about community and that this partnership would mobilise members to create awareness and take tangible action to eradicate childhood hunger in India.
