Cansaulim Health Officer Dr Vijaya Harlankar told the media after the inspection that the team came across a mound of bones of animals in the house, besides a scrapyard. “I will compile a report of the inspection and forward a report to the District Collector, South for further action,” Dr Halarnkar said.
The inspection was carried out following a complaint lodged by a group of farmers from Seraulim stating that a person has started dumping scrap material in the fields, thus causing pollution in
the area.
What has surprised the farmers and the inspection team was the fact that they came across a mound of animal bones, which appeared to be animals slaughtered
only recently.
A farmer, Patrick Vaz, told the media that the authorities should immediately rid the fields of the scrapyard and ensure that bones are not stored in the premises.
The farmers further demanded that the authorities remove the illegal road constructed by one person through the fields which has now obstructed the free flow of water in the paddy fields.
