MUCB depositors question branch-wise disbursal of deposits

MUCB depositors question branch-wise disbursal of deposits

MARGAO
With beleaguered Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) depositors questioning the yardstick employed by the bank in returning back their deposits post liquidation, officials said the liquidator office has started disbursing the deposits branch-wise.

Liquidator-appointed designated officer, Kishore Amonkar told The Goan that the bank has disbursed the bank deposits back to the depositors branch-wise.

With depositors raising questions how come the branch has started disbursing the deposits of depositors from Ponda, Margao and Sanguem first, Amonkar said the bank has started the exercise based on branch serial numbers.

“We have started the process branch wise. Depositors have nothing to worry since all those who have laid claim on their deposits will get their money in the coming days,” he said.

Having started with Ponda, Margao and Sanguem in the first phase, Amonkar said the bank will now disburse the amount of depositors from branches in Curtorim, Benaulim and San Andre, to be followed by Panaji and Aquem.

“All the depositors who have laid claim on their deposits have nothing to worry about. The audit agency has cleared the amount for the return of the deposits. Instead of disbursing the deposits together, the bank has started the exercise branch wise,” Amonkar added.

Saying all the depositors who have submitted their claim will soon receive their deposits back, Amonkar said barring 600-odd depositors, whose deposits exceed the Rs 5 lakh ceiling, all other depositors will get their money back without any difficulty. “Even these 600 depositors should not worry since they will be paid from the money recovered from the defaulters and after disposal of bank assets,” he added.
