MARGAO
Even as the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) Board has postponed the adjourned meeting on Sunday, shareholders and depositors of the bank have decided to go ahead with it.
While the Gomant Bhandari Bhavan, Margao, the venue of the adjourned annual general body meeting of MUCB, is expected to remain closed with the Board resolving not to have the Sunday meeting, shareholders have decided to assemble outside the hall to chalk out the future course of action.
Shareholder from Curtorim Dionisio Sardinha has made an appeal to the shareholders and depositors to turn up in large numbers outside the Bhandari Bhavan, Margao, at 10 am on Sunday to decide the future course of action.
“Though the MUCB Board has decided not to have the adjourned meeting on Sunday citing Covid norms, the shareholders will assemble outside the venue to decide what is best for the shareholders and the depositors,” Sardinha added.
He demanded to know how the MUCB Board has now realized that the Bandari Bhavan, Margao, cannot accommodate the number of shareholders and will only violate the Covid norms. “The Board cannot face the shareholders and hence has taken the alibi of the Covid norms not to have the adjourned annual general body meeting,” Sardinha
said.
Another shareholder Dr Ashish Kamat said the MUCB Board must have resolved not to hold the adjourned meeting, but the shareholders will go ahead with it and take decisions.
“The Board of Directors of the bank cannot face the depositors. Hence, they have postponed the adjourned meeting by citing Covid norms”, he said.
The annual general body meeting of MUCB held on December 26 was adjourned by the shareholders after they demanded that the Board compile a list of loan defaulters before January 10.
The MUCB Board, however, later rejected the demand of the shareholders, maintaining the names of the loan defaulters cannot be made public.
