Mud dumped on Socorro ground yet to be cleared

The mud dumped on the Socorro ground is yet to be removed by the contractor, despite instructions from the managing director of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
The foundation stone for the sports complex at Socorro was laid in 2013 and the work was to be completed by April 30, 2015. However, the fate of the project is still hanging in balance due to financial constraint faced by the State government.
In the absence of playground for the youth of Socorro, the residents had approached Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte to request GSIDC to remove the mud dumped on the construction site and make the ground available for the youth to play.
Khaunte had requested GSIDC Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues to visit the sports complex and hear the grievances of the residents of Socorro.
Rodrigues visited the construction site on April 13 and after listening to the grievances of the residents had directed the contractor to remove the mud and make the ground available for the youth to play.
However, when The Goan visited the site, the work to remove the mud had not begun as yet.
According to sources, the sports complex will take another 15 months to complete and till then, the youth will have to go elsewhere for a playground in Socorro.
