Residents of Zarina Towers at Tonca-St Inez have been grappling with a muddy water supply for the past few days, with complaints continuing despite efforts to identify the cause and resolve the problem.
Residents told The Goan that a water pipeline was allegedly damaged during construction work on an adjacent plot. The damaged pipeline has been identified as the likely source of contamination in the water supply.
However, residents said muddy water continues to flow from taps in the housing complex, causing daily inconvenience.
The developer undertaking the construction, Rajdeep Constructions, has reportedly assured residents that the issue will be rectified and necessary corrective measures taken.
Amid mounting complaints, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate visited the area on Thursday. He was accompanied by the ward councillor and engineers representing Rajdeep Constructions.
The Mayor interacted with residents and, in a statement posted on his social media handle, said he had visited Zarina Towers along with the ward councillor and engineers from Rajdeep Constructions to understand the muddy water issue.
“Speaking with residents and seeing the issue first-hand gave us a clearer understanding of the concern and the steps required to address it,” he said.
“The immediate priority was to identify a practical solution and ensure that the problem is resolved at the earliest,” Monserrate said in the post.
Residents, meanwhile, are hoping for swift action, saying access to clean water remains an urgent necessity.
They have urged the authorities and the builder to permanently resolve the issue and restore normal water supply without further delay.
