“Even if I am not given the ticket, I will sincerely work for the candidate chosen by my party,” he said. Mulla, who has been accused of a money laundering by the Enforcement Directorate along with two others, was addressing a news conference in city on Wednesday evening. Vishant Gaonkar, member of Shiroda Block Congress Committee, and Rajendra Naik were also present.
Mulla was booked for alleged misappropriation of Rs 2.87 crore given by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to GCA. “Minorities should be given an opportunity to contest election. I should be given chance from Shiroda,” Mulla demanded.
According to Mulla, Congress leadership in the State and Delhi should take his request seriously.
“The Shiroda Block Congress Committee has sent my name and Subhash Shirodkar’s name as ticket aspirants. The Congress leaders have told me to work for the people and I am confident that I will get the ticket,” Mulla said.
According to Mulla, he is working sincerely for the Congress since last 35 years and is more confident that his contribution will be acknowledged. “People want new face of Congress in Shiroda. Hence, Congress should prefer my candidature,” he added. He added that if not given the ticket, he would work for Subhash Shirodkar or any other candidate nominated by the party.
To a question on whether Subhash Shirodkar would win the assembly election if given the ticket, Mulla remained silent and said the party leadership has conducted a survey and it knows who can win. He said he was confident of victory, even though there are less number of minority votes.
