As his book “Many lives, Many cries” penned from inside the Colvale jail was released at a function in a city hotel here on Wednesday, Abhijit Patil, who is undergoing sentence in a murder case, has plans to pursue his Bachelor in Tourism Studies and complete legal education as well.
The book released at the hands of Principal of Kare College of Law Saba Da Silva, former MLA Damu Naik and Ramesh Onskar gives insight into the life of the convict and the thought process that he has undergone during the eight years in prison.
Abhijit is presently out on parole and will be back inside the Colvale jail on Thursday.
“The book, “Many lives, Many cries” is not only about my story, but the feelings of everyone around us. I have covered many an incident in my life in the book. Though I have been incarcerated for the crime, I feel I have to continue my journey at his junction. It was a big challenge for me,” he told the media before the book release.
To a query, he said that convicts should no longer be called as prison, but as subjects. Handicapped people are not longer called as handicapped. By calling them handicapped, we are disregarding them and hence we now call them as physically challenged persons. The same change should take place as far as prisoners are concerned”, he said.
Saying that he always had a wish to appear for the UPSC examination, Abhijit said since he could not appear the exam after the incident, he has now plans to pursue education in tourism students through IGNOU and also complete his law.
Asked whether he had ever wanted to call on the victim girl’s family after the incident, Abhijit said that normally does no happen for the simple reason that families on both sides are facing the trauma.
