While the murder was believed to have taken place on December 12, the police have exhumed the body of the Assam native from a pit on Sunday. The body has been sent for post mortem examination.
Superintendent of police, South Arvind Gawas told The Goan late Sunday evening that the Colva police have managed to trace the body of the deceased from Assam from a pit after it was buried by the couple and two other persons.
"Local residents had seen the accused couple from Jharkhand assaulting the deceased on December 12. When they questioned the couple, the woman was believed to have replied that the accused had allegedly come to sexually assault her", SP Gawas said.
Replying to a question, the district police chief said preliminary investigations by the Colva police has revealed that the Assam native has been beaten to death over suspicions of alleged illicit relationship.
He said the Colva police are on the job to nab the couple from Jharkhand, who are the main accused in the case. "We have identified one person by name Pradeep who may be part of the case. Besides, the police are on the look out for another persons", he added.
Given that it's now five days since the accused might have been beaten to death on December 12, SP Gawas said the body was recovered from the pit in a highly decomposed state.
Colva police station in-charge PI Filomena D'Costa is investigating under the supervision of DySP Raju Raut and SP Arvind Gawas.
