Musical Warriors on Sunday hit out at TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai daring him to quit the government if he does not oppose releasing Mhadei water to Karnataka.
Members of the Musical Warriors descended at the Opinion Poll Square as part of their ongoing campaign to protect Mhadei and to oppose diversion of water to Karnataka. The musical warriors belted a few songs on Mhadei, Goem and Goemkarponn.
Speaking to media, Sidhanath Buyao said Musical Warriors had come out to oppose any attempt to divert Mhadei river water to Karnataka in view of the ambivalent stand of BJP-led Manohar Parrikar government. “The Goa government is taking a stand in view of the Assembly elections in Karnataka. This is not acceptable to the people of Goa as we are totally opposed to any release of drinking water to Karnataka”, he said.
Buyao pointed out that Goa Forward chief Sardesai had initially toed govt line to release water to Karnataka for drinking purpose, but has now changed his stance because of some bickering in the government. “I would like to tell Sardesai to quit the government and join the people if he is concerned over Mhadei and is all out for Jack Sequeira’s statue in the Assembly”, Buyao said.
Terming Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Pramod Sawant’s purported warning not to say Viva Portugal as an attempt to divide Goans on religious lines, he said, “BJP and its leaders have no right to decide the freedom of speech and expression of Goans, demanding that BJP stop issuing such statements aimed at dividing Goans”.Sudip Dalvi said that it is the right of Goans to say Viva Goa, Viva Portugal, Vande Mataram and Viva Hindustan, saying that people such as Sawant will not be successful in dividing Goans by such divisive statements. “People may say Viva Portugal because they like the country. People here also say Vande Mataram, Viva Goa, Hindustan. Why is Sawant making such divisive statements”, Dalvi questioned.
“Sawant is a servant of the people. He should not bark at Goans and tell them do’s and don’ts. These are only divisive tactics which will no longer succeed in Goa”, he said.
