The Muslim body Azad Jamatul Muslimeen Welfare Trust (AJMWT) has petitioned CM Pramod Sawant to overcome the shortage of burial grounds as indicated by the law commission way back in 2009.
The Muslim body Azad Jamatul Muslimeen Welfare Trust (AJMWT) has stated that as per the law commission report in Goa, there is a shortage of crematoriums in 43 villages for Hindus, 50 cemeteries for Christians and 172 kabrastans for Muslims.
It may be recalled that the Muslim body is following up the issue consistently since 2017 when it had petitioned before the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) which had directed the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) and Directorate of Panchayat to take appropriate steps to ensure crematorium and burial grounds to all people.
However, with no action forthcomig, the trust has sent a legal notice to the government.
The trust has claimed that the Dawoodi Bohra Community members which are settled in Mapusa, Porvorim and Vasco have to send the dead bodies of their family members to Mumbai or Kolhapur for final rites.
