The Mormugao Port Trust has plans to clear the partially submerged MV Quing and floating dry dock from MPT waters before the monsoons to prevent another environmental hazard in the port.
“The Bombay HC has already received the money from the auction of MV Quing, while money from auction of floating dry dock will be deposited in the HC by MPT,” said MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar, adding, “The objective of the port is to clear both before May end.”
There was a big hue and cry about MV Quing, but the HC has already successfully tendered it for Rs 18.5 crore to a company called Balaji Fuels. “The vendor has deposited the money with the court and has already begun repair works in WISL area. Once repairs are completed, the vessel will be re-floated and towed away,” he informed.
The floating dry dock had also been auctioned off for Rs 4.55 crore through an e-tender.
“The money will be deposited in court and the court can then decide the disbursal, because many claims like WISL staff payments and our dues are pending. As conservator, we are putting the money in the court and the court will decide further in the matter,” said Jeyakumar.
“We have already informed our officers and their officers (Balaji Fuels) that this should be completed before May, prior to monsoons, because we don’t want another environmental hazard here in this port. I have also told the bidder of floating dry dock to clear it before May end, so that both the sunken parts are removed before monsoon starts,” he added-.

The panchayats have been given enough powers under the 73rd and 74th amendment of the Goa Panchayati Raj Act where a village can draw up its own plan,” said Sequeira, while addressing a news conference in his Calangute office…
