Insisting that safety of girls was of utmost importance, Aldona MLA, Glen Ticlo on Sunday said that the focus of the BJP-led government in the State and at the Centre was to promote the welfare of the girl child.
“Safety of girls is paramount and we should all contribute to the welfare of the girl child. The governments in the State and the Centre are also working for the welfare of girl child. I am very happy a girls hostel is coming up in my constituency,” Ticlo said.
The Aldona MLA was addressing a gathering while laying a foundation stone for a girl’s hostel at Duler along with Lakshmi Salgaoncar, chairperson of Anil Salgaoncar Foundation and trustee Sameer Salgaoncar.
Mapusa Municipal Council chairperson Ryan Braganza and councilor Franky Carvalho were also present.
Continuing, Ticlo said that in terms of women’s safety, Goa was far better than other states where one often hears about various untoward incidents against women.
He assured the Bahujan Hitya Trust that is constructing the hostel, all the help it needs to get the plans approved in the NGPDA.
Trustees of Salgaoncar Foundation, Sameer Salgaoncar said that his father’s vision was to work for the welfare of women.
“The Bahujan Hitya Trust has taken a good initiative. The foundation will fully back the project and provide the necessary support
for the girls hostel,” Salgaoncar said.
The Trust is building the hostel with an aim to provide accommodation facility for under-privileged girls.
Commending the Trust for the initiative, Braganza assured all help to provide necessary NOCs for the project.
‘‘For the last so many years the trend shows that girls excel in all fields compared to boys, as girls work hard silently. We need to promote and provide them with a platform to excel further,” Braganza said.
Bahujan Hitya Trust chairman, Amog Muni said that the Anil Salgaoncar Foundation has provided large amount of funds for the construction of the hostel which will benefit underprivileged girls.
“Through our trust, more than 20 such hostels have been built in various parts of the county. We assure the hostel work will be completed within eight months after all approvals are obtained,” Muni said.
