In a veiled threat to alliance partners, Aldona MLA and GIDC Chairman Glen Ticlo on Saturday said ministers should cooperate with “us” to get works done in the constituencies.
“Finally, works have to go on. Mantris should cooperate with us. It’s very important that all the alliance ministers cooperate with us and get our jobs done. That is very important. I am very clear on that. If that does not happen, obviously we are not going to keep quiet,” Ticlo said.
The Aldona MLA’s tough talking comes close on the heels after Calangute MLA Michael Lobo questioned the government’s lackadaisical approach toward recruitment and general administration in the State.
Ticlo informed that works in his constituency were getting done but there could be some delay in clearing of files due to the Chief Minister’s ill health.
“In the final stage, files need clearance from the finance department. Since the Chief Minister is unwell, may be there is slight delay in clearing of files....” he said.
“The Chief Minister has called me twice today. We will report to him and get our work done,” he added.
On Lobo’s outbursts against the government, he said that those were his personal views and he wouldn’t like to comment on it.
“But a lot of jobs are pending which the Chief Minister said he will clear… Now, some jobs of electricity JEs have come I think…” he averred.
But at the same time, Ticlo stressed that it was not possible to give government jobs to everyone and youngsters should start something of their own.
“Everybody should not gun for government jobs. Today, EDC is giving a lot of loans…all young entrepreneurs should get into business and be self-sufficient,” he said.
Curiously, the Aldona MLA said that to get jobs or to be a minister you need luck.
“To get jobs you need luck. Jobs don’t fetch you votes or don’t get you elected. Not getting a ministerial post is also due to luck. All 40 MLAs cannot become ministers… It’s people’s expectations that the MLA should be a minister. When you are destined, you will get it,” he said.
He said that party should have been given a representation in Bardez which has seven constituencies.
“If they had taken us into confidence, we would have told them. The party officials along with the Chief Minister and the centre have taken the call (on the ministers). They should know what is good for the party, government and people. Finally, the truth is when the election comes we will have to put in hard work, it should not go the other way round,” he said.
