Mystery shrouds death of Chimbel local

First abducted and assaulted, later found injured with legs smashed in apparent hit-run case

OLD GOA

Mystery shrouded the death of a local from Chinchwada-Chimbel Jayesh Chodankar who was found injured with his legs smashed moments after he was abducted and assaulted on Wednesday night.

According to information available, Chodankar was found injured after being run over by a vehicle near a garage along Merces highway after which he was shifted to GMC for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

However, suspicion has been raised in Chodankar’s death as prior to being run over he was allegedly abducted and assaulted by two persons, Krupesh Volvoikar of Britona and Pritesh Adkonkar of Chimbel.

In this connection, the Old Goa police have arrested both Volvoikar and Adkonkar and have charged them with abduction and assault of deceased Chodankar.

The complaint to this effect was lodged by Chodankar’s friend, Pascoal Cardozo, who said that both Volvoikar and Adkonkar allegedly abducted and assaulted the deceased with blows and iron rods, first at Patto-Ribandar and then at Chinchwada-Chimbel.

However, the deceased was later found injured with his legs smashed near a garage along the Merces highway.

The Old Goa police, however, said that they are investigating both the incidents separately and that they are on the lookout for the vehicle which ran over the deceased.

“Both the incidents are not related as the deceased was found 1.2 km away from the initial incident,” a police source stated while adding that they are on the lookout for the vehicle involved in the hit and run case.
