MAPUSA
A ‘doctor’, who was recently arrested for illegally prescribing allopathic medicine in Mapusa has admitted to police that all his degree certificates were doctored.
The alleged accused, Hanumantray Biradar, who has been accused of illegally practicing as a doctor, has also disclosed the source from whom he procured the certificates in Annamalai University in Karnataka.
During the interrogation, Biradar has disclosed the name of the person who used to forge the certificates for him and further revealed that the person was not living anymore.
Police sources, however, informed that they were verifying the facts.
Biradar had acquired certificates of MBBS and also an MD degree from the Annamalai University.
Mapusa Police have seized these certificates and some others which were hoisted on the walls of his dispensary in Angod, Mapusa.
Biradar’s claim that he is a qualified X-Ray technician and holds certificate courses in yoga and naturopathy has also come under a cloud and is being investigated.
Sources disclosed that SP North, Utkrisht Prasoon (IPS) has also interrogated the alleged accused in the lock up.
“The accused has confessed to us that all the certificates obtained from the Annamalai University were bogus. He has also disclosed some more information which we are trying to verify,” said Tushar Lotlikar, Mapusa PI.
In the meanwhile after spending four days in police custody, a Judicial Magistrate First Class court, Mapusa on Saturday released him on bail.
It may be recalled, Biradar was arrested on September 24 when the High Court rejected his anticipatory claim five months after Mapusa Police booked a case against him.
Acting on a complaint of the Goa Medical Council, Registrar, Govind Nasnodkar, Mapusa Police had raided Biradar’s consultancy opposite the Jama Masjid in Angod, Mapusa.
A case was consequently registered against Biradar under section 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged document as genuine) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 27 under the Goa Medical Council Act 2005.
Incidentally, in 2003, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) had filed a complaint in court against Biradar and also registered a case against him with the police under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.
The court had then dismissed police charges against Biradar stating that the accused cannot be charge-sheeted by the police for the same offence under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.
Biradar has been running a flourishing practice in Mapusa for the last several years.
