Nachinola meet grapples with border fence, towers

The issue of the controversial fencing along the Nachinola-Aldona border and erection of mobile phone tower dominated the Nachinola gram sabha on Sunday.

Former panch, Satish Govekar questioned the panchayat members on the steps taken via-a-vis the illegal fencing along the border.   
Sarpanch Govind Govenkar replied that a site inspection was carried along with Aldona sarpanch and secretary.   
“The Aldona sarpanch and secretary were present during the inspection. They have been asked to stop work on the fencing,” sarpanch said.   
The panchayat secretary further informed that a decision has been taken at the fortnightly meeting and it has been conveyed to the BDO.   
“We have decided to take the legal route to deal with the matter,” secretary Clifton Azavedo said.   
He said farmers from both the villages and immersion of Ganesh idols will be affected if the area is fenced.   
Another local, Sarvesh Raikar expressed concern about mobile phone towers being erected in private properties.   
He said as per normal procedure, no mobile phone tower can be constructed within 100 metres of a school and health units.   
The secretary informed that three days ago, the panchayat had received a memorandum from the Directorate of Panchayats asking whether a mobile phone company had applied for permission for installation of towers and submit report within seven days.
