BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday slammed opposition parties including the Congress, Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, criticising their track record in governance, while also accusing the Congress of specifically dividing society and providing unstable governments.
“Parties like the Indian National Congress or some others even make brothers fight one another. They divide societies and exploit caste divides. They are communal, they indulge in politics of appeasement. They even use the policy of division when it comes to the implementation of government schemes. They believe in the principle of divide and rule,” Nadda told an election rally at Marcela in support of the party’s candidate Janita Madkaikar.
“In the Congress, every MLA wants to be chief minister. Every MLA is trying to defeat the other. Our party takes everyone together and there is no infighting. It is clear we are fighting the elections under Pramod Sawant’s leadership,” he said.
Nadda also harked back to the days when the Congress was in power, especially the decade long political turbulence in the state, which saw 13 chief ministers.
“The Congress was in power before 2012. Tell me one scheme launched by the Chief Minister for the poor, backward persons. Everyday, they would parade MLAs every other day outside Raj Bhavan and fight for chief ministership,” he said.
Nadda also lashed out at the TMC claiming its government has an abysmal track record in West Bengal, where the party is in power.
“There are new parties coming. Someone was talking about the TMC. The most amount of human trafficking occurs in Bengal, most crimes against women are reported in Bengal, most number of crimes against children are reported in Bengal. Most unrecorded crimes are reported in Bengal. Do people from Goa want those who allowed things to come to this pass in Bengal to come here?” Nadda said.
The BJP national president also blamed the AAP, which is in power in the national capital, of ruining Delhi, while urging voters in the Cumbharjua assembly constituency to cast ballot in favour of Janita Madkaikar.
Endorses PM’s remark on Nehru
PANAJI: BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words blaming former Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru for relaying Goa’s liberation from Portuguese colonial yoke.
A day after the Prime Minister at an election rally in Mapusa said that Nehru had literally left Goa to its own fate and left satyagrahis to face Portuguese bullets, Nadda speaking at an election rally at Marcela, claimed that the central government at the time had no will to intervene and liberate Goa.
“Because of the Indian National Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru, your independence was delayed. The rest of the country gained independence in 1947. You became independent later. The country’s leaders did not have the will to liberate you. You earned liberation through your struggle,” Nadda said.
“When I see the people of Goa, I feel pride and honoured. I feel pride and a sense of honour because you have tolerated foreign forces for a long time. You kept on fighting and your struggle has not been a small one. The struggle went on for 451 years,” he also said, crediting generations of Goans for continuing the freedom struggle.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech in Mapusa had laid the blame for the alleged delay in the liberation of Goa squarely on the shoulders of the then PM.
